Dance Legends: BA2 Historical Project
THU 20 & FRI 21 JUN 14.30 & 19.30
Second year undergraduate students perform works by choreographers who have made a significant contribution to the development of contemporary dance in the 20th and 21st centuries. The evening will feature ‘Drumstick’ by Alison Curtis-Jones, a re-imagining of ‘Dancing Drumstick ‘(1913) by Rudolf Laban.
‘Drumstick’ refers to Laban’s early choreographic experiments with the dynamic body, removing the reliance of movement from sound score to expose the body’s own dynamic rhythm. Dancers determine the rhythmic phrasing live on stage and musicians compose real time in response to what they see.
