GSA at the University of Surrey is delighted to announce the launch event of the Labanarium, hosted by the Institute of Performance at the University of Surrey. The Labanarium is a new online Resource and Network Centre for the Movement Community due to launch January 2017. It aims to bring practitioners, teachers, researchers, students and scholars of movement practices of all forms and disciplines together to network, share practice, promote their activities and increase visibility in the field to further the work they are doing in advancing movement research.
Membership of the Labanarium is free and anyone can join – the only requirement for joining is an interest in human movement and an openness to the breadth and diversity of approaches which explore it.
This one-day symposium event will focus on researching and teaching movement and dance in Higher Education, in particular the commonalities and divergences in practices between University and Conservatoire settings. Keynote speakers are Dr Royona Mitra (Brunel University London) and Vanessa Ewan (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama).
Areas of discussion and presentation include the research and teaching of:
Movement for Actors
Physical Theatre
Dance Theatre
Choreography
Movement Direction
Movement / Dance Analysis
Dance and Movement training for the profession
Creativity through movement and dance
Somatic practice
The day will be a sharing of research, practice and ideas for teaching movement and dance in innovative and interdisciplinary ways, developing technique, physical creativity and ‘thinking in terms of movement’. The day features lectures, demonstrations and workshops from expert international and UK speakers and an opportunity to join the Labanarium project, a free online Resource and Network Centre for the Movement community.
